Position after 11. O-O

Previous Next

A big departure from Game 2. This time the White king goes to the kingside, and with kings castled on the same side, the attack may take a back seat to other maneuvers. Note that in the notes to Black's ninth, I expressed doubt that White would do this. This is not because the position is bad. I just think that White, in playing his bishop to g2, had found a superior setup to the one used in Game 2 and that this time castling queenside would confer an advantage, as White could still follow that up with Ne2-g3 and then g4-g5. After 11 O-O, I am not sure what White's plan should be, as attacking Black's king is no longer a main idea, and simply maintaining the big front will not put pressure on Black. (Have a question?
