Position after 4... Nc6

Previous Next

An interesting move, which players of the Black pieces have been trying to make work for some time. Declining in popularity is 4 ... c6 5 Nf3 Bg4 6 Be3 Qb6 7 Qd2 Bxf3 8 gxf3, as White's space advantage is usually more critical than his weakened pawn structure. The other 4th move for Black is simply 4 ... Nf6, transposing into the main lines of the Austrian. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde! Not all questions can be answered, but the Grandmaster will pick selected topics to cover live from e-mail received.)
