Bareev, Khalifman Top Russian Qualifier

Evgeny Bareev and Alexander Khalifman shared first place, while five more top Russian players also qualified for their nation's championship at the Russian Championship Semi-Finals. Bareev and Khalifman each scored 6.5/9 to secure a spot in the Championship.

Five more players qualified by scoring 6 points: Sergey Volkov, Sergei Rublevsky, Evgeniy Najer, Dmitry Jakovenko and Alexander Motylev.

The seven qualifiers from this tournament will meet with five invited players to battle for the Russian Championship in December. The invited players include World Champion Vladimir Kramnik, Peter Svidler, Alexander Morozevich, Alexey Dreev and Alexander Grischuk.

We will have complete coverage of the Russian Championships - traditionally a hard-fought compeition - this December. For now, here is a quick win by Bareev in the 5th round over Vladimir Belov.
