Five Share Gibtele.com Title

Five players tied with identical 7.5/10 scores to shrae the Gibtele.com Masters title. The tournament, held in Gibraltar, was a very strong swiss featuring 121 players.

The biggest name among the winners was top seed Alexei Shirov, who came back from a rough start to share the lead. Shirov shared the title with grandmasters Lev Aronian, Zahar Efimenko, Kiril Georgiev and Emil Sutovsky.

A group of five more players, including American GM Hikaru Namamura, tied for sixth with 7 points.

Gelfand Takes Lead in Bermuda

Israeli GM Boris Gelfand holds a half-point lead over Pentyala Harikrishna at the Bermuda Invitiational. The event is a double round-robin tournament featuring a field of six grandmasters.

Gelfand has a score of 5.5/9, with Harikrishna at 5.0. Giovanni Vescovi of Brazil and Lenier Dominguez of Cuba are currently a full point behind Gelfand, with Andrei Volokitin in 5th and Polish GM Bartlomiej Macieja in 6th.

Gelfand's slight lead is due mostly to a crucial 8th round game, where he was able to defeat Harikrishna with the white pieces. Here is that game:
