This letter was written by USCF President Denis Barry to FIDE President Kirsan Iljumzhinov. Acting on behalf of Grandmaster Gata Kamsky, Barry asks for clarification of certain terms under which Kamsky will play in the World Championship Match in Elista.
The letter is part of a rapid flurry of correspondence that took place amongst the various parties on 4 and 5 May:

Thank you for your letter of May 2, 1996, as well as the invitation to attend the World Championship Match in Elista. We appreciate your efforts and accomplishments in trying to finalize this long-anticipated event.
Mr. Kamsky wishes you to address the following points.
The major issues between the parties seem to be satisfactorily resolved. We are on the verge of achieving this historic result. Reaching a mutual agreement on these minor points will ensure Mr. Kamskyâs participation in this match in Elista.
