Americans in the World Cup: Kamsky Out
November 27, 2009
After losing two American players in round two playoffs, the bad news continued for the American squad at the World Cup. Gata Kamsky lost with White in the first game of his match with Wesley So of the Phillipines.

Can Kamsky prove Friedel wrong from his World Cup wrap-up article, "Losing with White is the one unforgivable sin in a two-game match"? Another reason to bet on black is Italian-American Fabiano Caruana, who won in round two over Lenier Dominguez Perez of Cuba. In round three, Caruana drew his first game with White against Evgeny Alekseev. 11/28/09 Update: Kamsky was unable to win with Black and is the defending champion and our last American standing is now unfortunately, out.
