Dan Lucas, USCF Director of Publications, ran the New York City Marathon on November 2, 2014, raising almost $2000 for Scholastic chess along the way. "It was a great experience despite the difficulties--at one point I was in so much pain that being down a rook in time trouble with a class prize on the line would have been less painful. I raised $1,859 through our crowdrise.com/uschessfederation site (you can still go there to donate!), money that will go directly to the scholastic chess community."

While in New York City, Lucas also had the opportunity to meet with several Chess Life contributors including Bruce Pandolfini and Dr. Frank Brady and his wife Maxine.

"Bruce, who has been writing for Chess Life for over 30 years, and I talked over classic New York deli sandwiches at the Carnegie Deli about his "Solitaire Chess" column and other current and future projects. Dr. Brady, who is the founding editor of Chess Life (1961) in its current form, met me at the Marshall Chess Club and we talked about the history and future of Chess Life. Brady will be the "My Best Move" columnist in the January 2015 issue and is penning a 100th anniversary feature of the Marshall that will appear in the September 2015 Chess Life."
