The Maryland Chess Association will host the 2014 US Cadet Championship from July 19-23 at the Rockville Hilton in Rockville, Maryland. The Cadet is an invitational tournament for the top US players under the age of 16. This year 10 players will be playing a round robin tournament to determine the champion. The winner will receive a four-year scholarship to UMBC.

  • This year's field is one of the strongest ever with the top four players all rated above 2400. The games will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on July 19-22 and at 10 a.m. on July 22. The standings, pairings, pictures, live video, and live games will be at http://uscadet.mdchess.com.

    In addition to the UMBC scholarship, the top three players will receive free entry into the Washington International that starts on August 9th. The International is the flagship of the Washington International Chess Festival. In addition to the six-day International, the Festival will have two other tournaments: a weekend Swiss, The 4th Annual Potomac Open, and the Washington International Blitz.
