The Washington International returns for a third year to Rockville, MD from August 9 - 14. Player feedback from last year's event (where players earned two GM and three IM norms and 38% won prizes) was overwhelmingly positive. The 9-round swiss A section has $18,000 in guaranteed prizes and will provide an opportunity for players to earn GM and IM norms. In order to improve the chances for earning these norms, a minimum rating of 2100 FIDE is required to play in the A section.

Nineteen players, including 7 GMs and 9 IMs, have already registered to play in the tournament. This year the B secton is a 7-round FIDE-rated swiss with the same schedule for the first four days and a $4,000 prize fund. Players must be rated under 2201 USCF and 2200 FIDE to play in the B section.

All equipment will be provided for the players in both sections. Come play in what one of last year's players called "the best open Swiss I've ever attended". More information about the tournament, including the currently registered players, can be found at http://washingtoninternationalchess.org.

The International is the showcase event for the Washington International Chess Festival, but there are also several other shorter duration events.
