August 8, 2013
AlexeyRoot300.jpgFrom August 7-14, Dr. Alexey Root will give five presentations of her seminar Thinking with Chess: Teaching Children Ages 5-14. Both chess novices and veteran chess players are invited to attend these free seminars and participate in two lesson plans. After the seminar, they can use those lesson plans to teach their own children or students. The seminar schedule is listed under "Upcoming Events" on Root's Amazon page https://www.amazon.com/author/alexeyroot. Root previously gave her Thinking with Chess seminar at SuperNationals V, where over 58 people attended.

The August 2013 Thinking with Chess tour marks Root's return to Pacific Northwest. Alexey Rudolph moved with her family to Tacoma, WA in 1976, from her hometown of Lincoln, NE. Her last Northwest chess tournament was the 1987 U.S. Open, in Portland, OR. Immediately after, she moved to California to begin a full-time teaching job at Bakersfield High School.   The presentations are possible thanks to Root's employer, The University of Texas at Dallas http://www.utdallas.edu/is/chess-online/, the Portland Chess Club http://pdxchess.org/, and the Timberland Regional Library www.trl.org.
