Magnus Back on Top in London
March 31, 2013
Magnus200.jpgWorld #1 ranked player Magnus Carlsen has recaptured the initiative in round 13 at the London candidates. He squeaked an 89-move win over Teimour Radjabov in what looked to be drawish 20 moves prior. After the game, Carlsen said that he didn't think he would win but "eventually (Radjabov) crumbled."

Former World Champ Vladimir Kramnik drew against Boris Gelfand so Carlsen and Kramnik are now both on 8.5/13. Because of a great number of wins, Magnus has superior tiebreaks (playoff will not take place in case of a tie) over Kramnik going into the final round. Carlsen has white against Svidler while Kramnik faces Ivanchuk with Black.

If the rest of the tournament is any indication, sparks will fly. Follow along at http://new.livestream.com/WorldChess/ starting at 9 AM EST to see who will challenge Vishy Anand for the World Championship crown.
