Thanksgiving Open, GM Norm Tourney in Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS, November 22, 2011 -- Chess players across the country will be gathering in Saint Louis this week to give thanks for tournament chess. The Thanksgiving Open, scheduled to be held November 25-27 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, features a prize fund of $10,050, and 10 titled players have already signed up to compete:

The tournament is a FIDE-rated, six-round, G/120 tournament in three sections (Open, U1800, U1400), and it also features two-day and three-day options with the option for re-entry. The first three rounds of the two-day option are G/65, and then the fields merge for round four.

Following the Thanksgiving Open, the CCSCSL will host its first-ever GM norm tournament. Nine of the ten players have already been confirmed  with one spot still remaining. The tournament is scheduled to run November 29 through December 3, and will be a nine-round, round-robin tournament with a standard FIDE time control.
