| Shen and Rajendran Big Winners at the National Youth Action |

The National Youth Action (November 5-7, Long Branch, NJ) crowned new National Champions, in four sections, K-12, K-9, K-6 and K-3. High school senior and Under 2400 World Open Champion Victor Shen took first place in the K-12 section. Shen scored a perfect 9-0 to win the section by a full point. Victor Shen said, "this tournament was practically held in my backyard. I was happy it was on the beach and about the way it was run." Victor pinpointed his favorite game as his victory over Justus Williams of IS 318 and Chess-in-the-schools. Last month, Justus broke the record as the youngest African-American master ever while Victor's perfect 9-0 puts him on a personal best rating of 2437. In the K-9 section, Jeevan Karamsetty of Virginia and Andrew Ding of New Jersey tied for first.

In the K-6 Champs, Rishi Rajendran of New Jersey took clear first by a full point with 8.5/9. Praveen Balakrishnan and Rohit Praveen Desai tied for first in the K-3 with 7.5/9 each. Balakrishnan, who recently returned from the World Youth in Greece, sent the following win from Long Branch:

Infinity Chess Academy in Westport won the K-12 Team. IS 318 earned top team honors in the K-9 while Dean of Chess teams took K-6 and K-3. Victor Shen also won the K-12 blitz tournament while Christopher Yang of Pennsylvania took the K-6 section. Randy Rivera and Danny Feng of IS 318 in Brooklyn won the bughouse event.
