The US team won against Greece 2.5-1.5 to maintain at least a tie for the lead at the World Team Championship (Bursa, Turkey, January 4-13). In the final two rounds, we face two tough teams: Armenia and Azerbaijan. Today's Armenia-Russia match was a crucial battle for our closest rivals, Russia a team that was leading against the US on tiebreaks last round. Armenia-Russia was a 2-2 standstill, leaving US in the clear lead with just two rounds to go. Russia faces Egypt and Israel in the last two matches.

In the match against Greece, Nakamura defeated Kotronias with the Black pieces. Nakamura is truly a monster with the black pieces in this event-see his own annotations of his win over Gelfand here.
