After three rounds of the Miami Open (September 10-14), two IMs, Ray Robson and John Bartholomew, lead with perfect 3/3 scores. Ray defeated two American stars, IM Irina Krush and GM-elect Josh Friedel, while Bartholomew defeated IM Dinoisio Aldama. Update: Robson in clear lead with 5/5!
There are six GMs playing, but after three rounds all had been nicked for at least half a point. The dirty work against GM was not performed by the two young IMs who faced off in round four, but other talented FMs and IMs in the field. Local FM Marcel Martinez defeated GM Gildardo Garcia, IM Andrei Florean won against GM Alexander Shabalov and Alexander Ivanov fell to IM Salvijus Bercys. But not all of the top seeds have faltered. After three rounds, GMs Viktor Miklahevski and Julio Becerra were tied for 3rd-9th with 2.5/3.
