Big Money Scholastic Tournament Comes to New Jersey Print E-mail

CHERRY HILL, NJ--$12,000 is up for capture in the 1st Annual Rentschler Foundation High School Chess Championship to be held at the Holiday Inn in Cherry Hill, NJ on June 12 – 13.

This is a FREE (no entry fee) tournament in which college-bound students from any state in grades 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to compete for college scholarships: 1st $3,000, 2nd $2,000, 3rd $1,500 and 4th $1,000. In addition to the place prizes, scholarships for $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000 will be awarded to the top three players that reside in Southern New Jersey.  Also, trophies for the top players U2200, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000 and U800 will be awarded. One prize per player.

This event, with one of the largest prize funds in scholastic tournament chess, is being organized by the All the King’s Men Chess Center of Pitman, NJ. Pre-registered players include 16-year-old Andrew Shvartsman and reigning Cadet Champion Andrew Ng. All the King’s Men owner, Stephen Arnold Dick, said “relative to scholastic chess events, this is huge. Maybe not in terms of prestige, yet, but in terms of prizes, this definitely is huge!”
