1221 Chess Competitors From Across the Nation Met in Atlanta for the 2008 National High School Print E-mail

(Crossville, TN) The 2008 National High School Chess Championship was held April 18 through 20 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, GA.  Play included matches between the 1221 competitors, teams and special events. 

Section Champions were:
K12 Championship: Daniel A. Yeager (PA) with 7.0 points.
K12 Under 1600:  A tie between Jacob Maneth (AZ), and Derek D. Sachs (WI) at  6.5 points.
K12 Under 1200: John J. Kennedy (NY) won with 7.0 points.
K12 Under 800:  A tie between Alex Hanke (WI), and Anoop Gangireddy (GA), each scoring 6.5 points.           
K12 Unrated: Tyler Thomas (WI) with a win at 7.0 points.
K8 Under 750: Jack Bussert (OK) won with 6.5 points.

In special events the K12 Blitz (5 minutes per game) winner was Conrad Holt (KS) with 11.0 points.   The Bughouse yielded a three-way tie between Mateer A. Francis, Tan J. Tan, and Theiss N. Low, all at 9.0 points. The event’s Biggest Upset was Andy Glatzel (WI), rated 434 defeating his opponent rated 1297. Andy received a $250 scholarship from mychessphotos.com!
