Robert Rodney "Rod" Meadows (1942-2009)
 
Robert Rodney "Rod" Meadows, a former USCF member from Newark, Ohio, died Thursday, December 3, 2009 in Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark. He was 67. He was born September 17, 1942, in Newark, the son of Robert W. Meadows Sr. and Freda May (Culver) Meadows, and had lived all his life here.

He graduated from Newark High School in 1960 and later earned a bachelor's degree from Capital University in Ohio. Mr. Meadows worked as a licensed social worker at Moundbuilders Guidance Center. He played rated chess at the short-lived USCF affiliate, the Newark YMCA Chess Club, in the early 1990s.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin Meadows of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Christopher Meadows of Ostrander, Ohio; a daughter, Angela Priest of Newark; four brothers, three sisters, four grandsons, a granddaughter, six great-grandchildren, and a stepmother. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Sue Ann Meadows, who died on November 8, 2003; a daughter and a brother.

A funeral service was scheduled to be held Monday, December 7, in the Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home in Newark, followed by burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
