Peter D. Gilbert (1955-2010)
 
Peter D. Gilbert, a former USCF member from Leominster, Massachusetts, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at home after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 54. He was born October 17, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Neiss) Gilbert. He graduated from Worth (Ill.) High School in 1973. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, majoring in computer sciences. He was currently attending Worcester (Mass.) Polytechnic Institute, where he was working toward a doctorate.

Mr. Gilbert was a former member of the Wachusett Chess Club in Fitchburg, Mass., competing as a Class A player in the club championships in the 1980s and early 1990s. He also played correspondence chess and competed occasionally at the former Nashoba Chess Club in Westford, Mass.

He leaves his wife, Carol (Bohi) Gilbert, a former USCF member; a son, two daughters; his father and three sisters.
