The Women's World Championships begin November 9th in Khanty-Mansiysk. In the first round, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk faces Tatev Abrahamyan. Abrahamyan lost the Western States title narrowly on playoff and recently won a chess.com "Death Match" over Anna Zatonskih. She was profiled by Betsy Dynako in the August Chess Life Magazine. Miami resident Kosteniuk plays under the Russian flag. The former World Women's Champ was featured in a recent issue of Vogue Magazine as well as the CLO article, "The Chess Queen Wears Prada."

Reigning US Women's Champion Irina Krush is paired against Ruofan Li (2383) of Singapore while IM Anna Zatonskih plays Carolina Lujan (2369) of Argentina. See full pairings on the FIDE website (pdf) and find the official website here.
