GM Gabriel Sargissian
Two players topped the Chicago Open with 7/9 (May 22-26), good for $7500 each: GM Gabriel Sargissian of Armenia and Lindenwood student IM Priyadharshan Kannappan from India. Sargissian, who took the 1st place $200 bonus on tiebreak, arrived in Chicago right after seconding GM Varuzhan Akobian to a stellar result at the US Chess Championships.

Sargissian counted victories over GMs Alexander Shabalov, Bartlomiej Macieja & IM Levan Bregadze.

IM Kannappan
Kannappan's back to back wins over GM Julio Sadorra and GM-elect Kayden Troff put him ahead of over a dozen Grandmasters. Pending confirmation, this result is good for Kannapan's first GM norm.

Look for a feature next week by Kannapan on his big win, which will include game annotations. But first Kannapan is hunting down his second norm-- at the GM Invitational starting tomorrow at the STL Chess Club.
