GM Timur Gareyev To Appear at the National Junior High Champs Print E-mail

timurplaying.gifGM Timur Gareyev, one of the highest rated players in the country, will be the special guest at the National Junior High Chess Championship.

Timur will do a 30-board simul at 9 AM on Friday before the main event kicks off.  The same day, starting at 3 PM, he will take on all comers on Blitz games.  On Saturday at 4:30 PM, he will give a lecture followed by a Questions-and-Answers session.  The cost of the simul will be $25 but will be available only to the first thirty players to register for it.  His two other events will be free of charge.

GM Gareyev was the National Champion in his native Uzbekistan and represented that country at two World Chess Olympiads.   In the U.S., he has won many prestigious events, including the 2005 National Collegiate Championship, the 2009 Liberty Bell Open, the 2009 and 2010 Copper State International, the 2010 National Open, the 2011 Chicago Open, and the 2012 North American Open.  Timur was the recipient of chess scholarships to the University of Maryland at Baltimore County (UMBC) and University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB).  He attended both, but earned his degree at UTB.  In 2012 Gareyev, along with GM Alejandro Ramirez, was selected the winner of the Frank P. Samford, Jr. Chess Fellowship. Among chess enthusiasts worldwide, Timur is also famous for his ability to perform blindfold simultaneous exhibitions.
