|Shankland, Onishuck & Ivanov Advance at the World Cup; Others Head to Tiebreak|
|August 29, 2011|
World Cup round two tickets have been stamped for three US players GMs Sam Shankland, Alexander Onischuk and Alexander Ivanov (Ivanov's round 1 opponent, Wang Hao withdrew due to health problems). Shankland will face Abhijeet Gupta in round two while Alexander Onischuk plays David Navara. Alexander Ivanov's opponent is still undecided as Igor Lysyj and Mikhail Kobalia, both of Russia head to tiebreak. GM Sam Shankland completed his upset over GM Peter Leko when the 2700+ GM offered him a draw in a worse position, clinching Sam's ticket to round two.
GM Alexander Onischuk topped his match 1.5-0.5 after winning his game with White against Ivan Ivanisevic of Serbia.
GM Gata Kamsky won his first game against Diego Rafael Di Berardino of Brazil but lost in the second game of his match. Robson and Shulman also play tiebreaks tomorrow- they both split their match games with two draws.
