GM Hikaru Nakamura scored his third draw in a row at the London Chess Classic , against GM Nigel Short. "I had a spatial advantage but during the game I didn't see anything special," Hikaru said at the press conference.
GM Ian Rogers, who will be blogging for CLO later in the tournament, said, "Carlsen and Kramnik are looking in awesome form." Rogers said that earlier today, after Kramnik won a pretty game vs. Luke McShane.
Carlsen on the other hand was up an exchange and looked sure to win over GM David Howell. But Howell pulled off a miracle marathon defense to give Carlsen his first nick of the tournament.
Although I guess, 80 moves can't really considered a "marathon" in this tournament, in light of the McShane-Short round 1 battle which topped out at 160 moves! Macauley Peterson of the Internet Chess Club provides videos from the scene, including "Not Very Short" and a clip with in-depth analysis by Magnus Carlsen on his win over Kramnik.
Friday is a free day and Saturday, 12/12/09 is the much-awaited Carlsen-Nakamura faceoff. Watch it live on the official website starting at 9 AM EST or the Internet Chess Club, where CLO editor Jennifer Shahade will be commenting with IM Andrew Martin.
