Rethymno, Crete, July 12-19 2009. After five rounds he has 4.5/5 points alongside three GMs. The 100 player field looks very strong this year with 40+ titled players from over twenty different countries. No doubt this is due to the excellent conditions given to even mere mortals with a decent FIDE rating (reduced hotel and entry fee).
International Master Bryan Smith is currently tied for first place at the international tournament in |
Bryan also plans to play the 2nd Paleohora International Open Chess Tournament which launches on 21st July and concludes on the 28th. Let’s root Bryan on as he hunts down his first GM norm. If he catches fire like he did at last year’s King Island and National Chess Congress it will be a snap.
His games so far include a win over GM Zubarev (2548 ELO) in round 4 and a tactical melee in Bryan's pet Dragon defense in the fifth round against Ukrainian GM Tukhaev.
