Press Release #9 of 2008

The United States Chess Federation (USCF), in conjunction with the Marriott Indianapolis East Hotel, and the Orange Crush Chess Club, is pleased to announce the return of the U.S. Open to Indiana.

The 110th U.S. Open will be held August 1-9, 2009, at the Marriott Indianapolis East Hotel and Convention Center.  Cooperating hotels include the Fairfield Inn & Suites, and the LaQuinta Inn and Suites.  All are located on 21st Street, at the I-70 and I-465 Interchange, just 17 minutes from the Indianapolis International Airport.  All three hotels will offer a $99 per night chess rate.

Combined, the campus offers over 580 guest rooms and suites.  The conference center offers over 57,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.

The 2009 U.S. Open will once again offer a guaranteed prize fund of $40,000.  The USCF wishes to thank Don Urquhart and the Orange Crush chess club for their help in securing this site.  The last U.S. Open (then known as the Western Open) held in Indiana was in South Bend in 1928.

The U.S. Open is an event for all USCF members, young and old.  The federation looks forward to your participation.
