![]() Tal Memorial (November 9-19, Moscow) Standings After 7 rounds 1. Vladimir Kramnik, RUS 2785- 5 2. Alexei Shirov, ESP 2739- 4 3-6. Peter Leko, HUN 2755, Boris Gelfand ISR 2736, Magnus Carlsen, NOR 2714 and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, AZE 2752-3.5 7-8. Vassily Ivanchuk, UKR 2787 and Gata Kamsky, USA 2714- 3 9-10 Dmitry Jakovenko, RUS 2710 and Evgeny Alekseev, RUS 2716 Games Against Jakovenko, Kamsky's exchange sacrifice didn't work out and he found himself defending a tough endgame. Despite a ninety move fight, he was unable to hold. Kamsky's game against "Shak" started as an innocent looking Slav with a6, but flared up when Mamedyarov castled queenside. Kamsky's 31...Nf1! was a great shot. Even after this nice move, there were a lot of ups and downs and it could have gone either way up until Kamsky played 36...Qg5+, winning material. In the final position, White chose to resign rather than allowing the embarrassing Na5+! Kramnik leads by a full point. In round six, he made quick work of his compatriot Evgeny Alekseev. 31.Bc4! is a pretty finale. It's the only bishop move that defends against black's only real threat, Nd3+ and also threatens mate.
