Today the big news at the Olympiad was Kirsan Illijuminov's decisive victory in the FIDE presidential election over Former World Champion and human rights activist Garry Kasparov.

Over the chess board, US drew both matches. In the Open, Kamsky lost while Akobian won to save the match.
