The US team drew Canada 2-2 today in the Open section of the Olympiad in Tromso, Norway (August 1-14). GM Varuzhan Akobian lost on board three while GM Sam Shankland evened the match, thus maintaining a perfect board score (4/4).
This round saw heavy-hitters face-off. World Champion Magnus Carlsen drew with World #2 Levon Aronian while Former World Champ Kramnik defeated rival Veselin Topalov.
In the women's division, Irina Krush lost on board one but Tatev Abrahamyan and Katerina Nemcova both won on boards three and four to secure match victory.
Tomorrow (8/7/14) is a rest day, and play will resume on Friday with the women facing Estonia and the men playing Paraguay.
