Stephen J. Kaluzynski (1940-2013)

Stephen J. Kaluzynski, a USCF member from North Monmouth, Maine, died November 7, 2013 at Togus V.A. Medical Center in Togus, Maine. He was 72. He was born December 26, 1940 in Lewiston, Maine, the son of Frank and Nellie Kaluzynski. He graduated from Lewiston High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Kaluzynski had been employed for many years as a mill worker at Globe Albany in North Monmouth and at Carlton Woolen Mills in Winthrop, Maine, before he retired.

An avid chess player, he competed in many tournaments in Maine over the years. In his younger years, he participated in the chess club that met Tuesday nights at the Barnes & Noble bookstore. The last event he competed in was the New England Friendly Downeast Open, held in South Portland in early August 2013.

Mr. Kaluzynski is survived by a sister, Jenny Wayne of Connecticut. His wife, Maria Sidor of Germany, whom he married in September 1976, passed away in 2010.

Burial was in Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop.
