Darwin Yang earned a GM norm in the Bay Area International (January 2-8) and ended in a six-way for first with GMs Anton Kovalyov, Wei Yi, Sam Shankland, Bartlomiej Macieja and Daniel Naroditsky.

Yang wrote, "Did it. I won my last game, tied for first and made my final GM norm. Just need to get my rating up. The end of a fantastic journey of ten years." 

American stars Tatev Abrahamyan and 13-year-old Jeffrey Xiong also earned IM norms. This is the American Women's Olympic team member's final norm. WIM Ni Shiqun (China) also earned WGM and IM norms.
