The 6th New York International began on Wednesday with a star studded field featuring 65 players from 18 different countries, including 9 Grandmasters and 12 International Masters.  The top seeds are GM's Jaan Ehlvest (FIDE rating 2621), Giorgi Kacheishvili (2615), Sam Shankland (2601), Aleksandr Lenderman (2567), Tamaz Gelashvili (2560) and Vladimir Dobrov (2545).

The strength and depth of the field is demonstrated by the many first round upsets, including draws on three of the top four boards.

The event (one of only a handful of "Super Swisses" in the U.S.) provides players with excellent chances to achieve title norms.  Last year 3 IM and 2 GM norms were awarded, more than in any other tournament in the country.

Please check the Marshall Chess Club website for pairings and standings.

The top boards are broadcast live on ICC.
