Magnus200.jpgIn a thrilling and surprising finish, Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Vladimir Kramnik of Russia lost to Peter Svidler (Russia) and Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) at the London Candidates.

Because Carlsen and Kramnik were both 1.5 points ahead of the field, even the losses left them at the top of the crosstable. The challenger's spot thus went to Carlsen, with better tiebreaks (most wins).

In a press conference after the game, Carlsen said that he did not have time to look at Kramnik's position until after time control, when Magnus was already in a hopeless position.

Carlsen will face Anand later this year for the World Championship title.
