MagnusSlideCand.jpgPre-tournament favorite Magnus Carlsen of Norway leads in the London Candidates by half a point after his main rival (see GM Rogers' piece on the two horse race up to round six), Levon Aronian(Armenia) lost to Boris Gelfand of Israel in round nine.

The BBC ran an interesting piece on Magnus. "Chess came from inside for Magnus", said his father. He's also described in the piece as a cross between "a boxer" and a "50s gangster." The show is geared toward a mainstream audience, but is definitely worth a listen for even devoted chess fans.
