The US team defeated Russia 2.5-1.5 today at the Women's World Team Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. This was a major highlight in an event which started out poorly for the American women.
Irina won her own game against former Women's World Champion GM Alexandra Kosteniuk, who will be a special guest at the upcoming SuperNationals in Nashville.

Irina now stands with a performance rating of over 2600, second on board two only to reigning Women's World Champ Anna Ushenina.
