Phiona Mutesi of Queen of Katwe by Tim Crothers, (available on USCF sales) and the November Chess Life Mag cover, came to Philadelphia to inspire 9 Queens Academy students & for a private lesson with CLO editor Jennifer Shahade. The event was organized by ASAP (After Schools Activities Partnerships).

Phiona will be in the US for the next couple weeks- she has been at a number of signings including one hosted by the Marshall Chess Club. She is also doing a media tour, and will appear on ESPN tomorrow, December 7th, starting with a livechat on ESPN.com at 10 AM EST followed by a TV interview at 11:30 AM EST.

Jennifer also showed Phiona a game from the Women's World Championship, which had concluded that very morning. After deliberation, Phiona found new Women's World Champion GM Anna Ushenina's star move Qa7!

Jennifer gave copies of Play Like A Girl to Robert and Phiona and received a signed copy of Queen of Katwe.

Afterwards, Phiona, her coach Robert Katende and Rodney and Jan Suddith of Sports Outreach saw a little of Philadelphia including the picturesque center city park, Rittenhouse Square.
