Sevillano Takes Clear First in Auburn Open Print E-mail

Auburn, California hosted 82 players in the 1st Auburn Power Open on November 2-4. Organized by the Auburn Chess Club, with the sponsorship of the The Power Club restaurant and brewery, the tournament is believed to be one of the largest and strongest tournaments ever held in the Sacramento region.

Led by two Grandmasters, three International Masters, five FIDE Masters, and three Life Masters, a field of twenty-three players competed in the Open (2000+) section.  GM Enrico Sevillano finished with 4.0 in the five-round event, giving him a clear first place.  Six tied for second with 3.5:  GM Walter Browne, IM Ricardo De Guzman, FM David Lucky, FM Pedram Atoufi, FM Nick Raptis, and Kesav Viswanadha.  GM Sevillano's effort won him the top prize of $817.




The U2000 section was won by Doug Legvold of Sacramento with 4.5.  Alex Labeirie and Brahma Mohanty won the U1600 and U1200.

Best game was awarded to Chenyi Zhao, 8, of Fremont CA, playing in the U1600 section.

 

Chief Tournament Director was LM Arthur Braden. The organizers intend to hold this event again next year. Find USCF rated results on MSA.
