The New York International
began with a number of upsets, including IM Marc Arnold winning over IM Alex Lenderman and Marc Esserman defeating GM Hracek. Young players also shined, with Darwin Yang drawing against the #1 seed, GM Jaan Ehlvest, Alec Getz drawing GM Sergei Kudrin and Kassa Korley defeating IM Daniel Fernandez. Gregory Braylovsky also won against GM Leonid Yudasin.
