The New York International (June 17-22) began at St. John's University with a big round 1 upset: Aleksandr Ostrovskiy (2353) defeated GM Pentala Harikrishna (2780).

After two rounds, GMs Timur Gareyev, Jaan Ehvlest, Kidambi Sundararajan, Mikheil Kekelidze, IM Robert Hungaski, IM-elect Farai Mandizha and FMs Kassa Korley and Ostrovskiy are still on perfect scores. Also playing are GMs Alexander Shabalov, Sergey Kudrin, Alexander Ivanov and Leonid Yudasin.
