KASPAROV CHESS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2011 SERIES OF SCHOLASTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Individual and Team Tournaments Planned for Greater New York, Greater Mid-Atlantic, and Greater Chicago Areas of the United States.


New York, NY, Jan. 24, 2011 -- Kasparov Chess Foundation today announced its 2011 Scholastic Championships Series, spanning across major metropolitan areas of the nation.  The Foundation Chairman and former World Chess Champion, Garry Kasparov, will be signing his latest books and giving encouragement to all players at the Greater New York Championships at the New Yorker Hotel.

The Foundation is organizing these events in conjunction with local chess organizations in each region, including Chess Center of New York, ChessPRO, and University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Renaissance Knights.

The tournament schedules are as follows:

Jan. 29 - 30, Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championships

Feb. 5 - 6, Greater Chicago Scholastic Chess Championships at the Westin Chicago North Shore in Chicago, IL; for more information visit: http://www.renaissanceknights.org/event/greaterchicago

Feb. 5, Greater Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Chess Championships

According to Kasparov Chess Foundation President Michael Khodarkovsky, the tournaments are centered in the major metros in each region.  "Similar to previous years, we're making these events available to the largest population of players by hosting these events in the key cities, while making them more accessible and affordable for their families."
