WHITHOUSE STATION, NEW JERSEY, JANUARY 7, 2011: IM Dean Ippolito, 32, was scheduled to attempt the Guinness World Record for most games played simultaneously on November 27, 2010 in Flemington, NJ.  Due to reported controversy surrounding the last two record breaking events, Guinness has officially retired that record.  In its place, Guinness has created a new “professional” record which has more stringent rules for the players. Ippolito plans to be the first to attempt this new record where he will have to play at least 100 challengers with a minimum established rating of 1200 USCF or FIDE. Despite the increased level in play amongst the challengers, Guinness has kept the minimum win percentage at 80%.

The new attempt is set for April 9, 2011 at the HealthQuest Sports Center in Flemington, NJ. Ippolito anticipates the entire event will last 15-20 hours depending on the average rating of the participants.  “This will be a very difficult record to accomplish, both physically and mentally.  Mistakes against this level of player will be quickly punished” said Ippolito who has not lost a game in a simultaneous exhibition in over 15,000 games since 1991.  He has been training physically and mentally for this event since summer.  He recently did a training exhibition at the world famous Marshall Chess Club in NYC in which he played players as high as 2000.  He drew two games and won the rest in a time of three and a half hours.

If you are USCF or FIDE rated at 1200 or higher and would like to participate in this first ever record attempt, please go to www.chessworldrecord.com to sign up.  Ippolito is going to accept the first 120 challengers.  There will be prizes and other games in the daylong event and spectators are encouraged.

The event is being sponsored by HealthQuest, Team Capital Bank, JG Petrucci Company, Inc., PNC Bank and Diamond Nation.

Team Capital Bank was organized in early 2005 by a group of prominent business leaders in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
