slotm2.jpgThe National Open in Las Vegas kicked off Thursday afternoon with simuls by GM Varuzhan Akobian and 2009 US Women's Champion Anna Zatonskih. Zatonskih, called the simul one of her toughest ever. After six hours, she won 24 games, lost two and drew three.

In the quick tournament, Anna's husband, GM Daniel Fridman won clear first with 5.5/6. Daniel also tried to make his wife's simul even more difficult, sitting down in the middle of the action and setting up a tough position. Zatonskih, who was so focused on moving along, at first didn't notice the imposter!

The main event begins on Friday, at 11 AM PST. Follow the action on the official website or Monroi.com for live games, and look for updates on CLO this weekend.
