Correspondence Chess
William Trim
Bio from Nov. 1997. I don't remember learning to play chess. I do recall playing a few games
as a teenager but I was in the service before I took a serious interest. I played in my first
tournament when I was 21, in the fall of 1974. Because of work and family interest I only played
on a sporadic basis.

I began playing postal chess in the mid 80's as a tool to improve my openings. Instead,
I found my thinking time occupied with the middlegame that arises from the openings and with
transpositions to the endgame. I try to play each move to the best of my understanding. But,
even in postal chess I am sometimes forced to play a move that I cannot predict the outcome.
Postal chess is not about memorizing but about understanding!
