Correspondence Chess

John Sarar

Bio from July 1984. On the cover of the Postal Chess Bulletin of July 1984, John offered this bio. John Sarar

In most of the postal games I've observed, the openings were punctuated by mistakes. But the middlegame or final combinations in many cases, were excellent logical chess. My opening play, too, is not perfect, but you may find my attack enjoyable. We postal players are in most cases poor souls who in our youth got hooked on chess. In my case realities of life often never permitted enough time to play an over-the-board game for six months at a time.

As a photographer, producer and account executive for Audio Visual Multimedia Shows, I often work 100 hours a week. After finishing photography around 3am, I have to wait three hours for the film to be processed. That is the perfect time for postal chess!
