Kiven (Ken) Plesset

As of December 1997. Ken is an over-the-board (OTB) Life Master and has attained a Correspondence Chess Senior Master rating of 2410. Among many of Ken's outstanding chess accomplishments is 1st place in the US Individual Intercollegiate Tourney of 1944; 2nd place in the 1973 New England Open as well as 1st place in the CCLA Class Championship; 1st place in the USCF Absolute Championship - 1997 and was co-winner of the 1981 USCF Absolute with David Eisen and the list goes on for this retired Electronic Design Engineer. Kiven Plesset

Not only does Ken spend many hours playing chess but also works hard at having promoted chess through the New Haven CC; Connecticut State Chess Association; Delegate from Boston in 1988 as well as having held offices of Founder/President and Vice President of the NorthEast Valley CC in Phoenix, AZ.

Ken notes that playing both OTB and CC chess has helped him accomplish so many outstanding victories. In an interview by En Passant Iowa Chess, Ken noted that in a 15 year span of chess he has only lost four games! Ken was co-champion of the 5th USCFF with Paul Fielding. Ken chalks it up to being able to pull from both OTB and CC competition the ability to study games as far ahead at 15 moves. Ken suggests that players not take on too many games but rather play carefully and play well a few games at a time. If following Ken's advice will help us receive even half of his accomplishments, I'd go for it!
